What Are the Steps Involved in Crown Lengthening Treatment?

Posted .

If you’re one who likes to prepare for your dental treatments, our Lifetime Dentistry team is happy to help you prepare for your crown lengthening treatment in Muscatine, Iowa!

Crown lengthening is a beneficial treatment that helps improve your oral health and beautify your smile when you have excessive gum tissue growth that creates a “gummy smile.” When you come into our office and meet with Dr. Holly Krystek, you can expect the following treatment steps:

Step 1: To begin, your dentist will numb the tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic. This will help you feel comfortable and relaxed during your appointment.

Step 2: Then, your dentist will cut the gums and pull them away from the teeth, exposing the roots and surrounding bone.

Step 3: Your dentist will then remove the gum tissue from your mouth and sometimes the bone from the tooth roots if necessary. The bone will be removed using a combination of instruments, like hand and rotary instruments.

Step 4: When enough of the tooth structure has been exposed, Dr. Holly Krystek will deeply clean the area by irrigating it with sterile salt water.

Step 5: Once the area is pristine, your dentist will stitch the gums together and will cover the surgical site with a dressing called an intraoral.
