Seasonal Foods and Sugary Foods

Like most of you, the holiday season is one of our favorite times of the year at Lifetime Dentistry. However, we usually see an increase in cavities growing around this season due to the increase in sugary foods and alcohols that people eat during their festivities. To help you keep your teeth safe during the holidays, go over the following tips concerning which foods you can consume safely and which foods to partake a tiny bit less of.

The main cause of dental breakdown is the overconsumption of sugary foods such as candies, juices and a few full-fat dairy products. To avoid oral decay, consider avoiding these foods and opting for less-sugary choices. For example, protein sources like chicken, beef and fish are excellent for cleaning your teeth! (Be sure to floss afterward!) Whole grains and low- or no-fat dairy products are also excellent picks. Vegetables, with very little dip, might be the soundest choice. This season, skip the punch bowl for the cracker platter or the veggie tray and your teeth will be thankful.
