As you may already know, oral hygiene is extremely important, especially when you have braces. If you properly clean your smile each day, you won’t need to worry about tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth discoloration. So, to help you keep your smile in tip-top shape while you align your teeth, your dentist, Dr. Holly Krystek, recommends doing the following things:

Brush: Brush your teeth regularly throughout the day, especially after each meal and snack. Doing so will help you remove the food particles from your braces and will also help you avoid having a food-filled smile. As you brush, make sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

Floss: Floss your smile at least once a day with a flossing product of your choice. However, if you want an easier flossing technique, it’s best to use a product that is strong on each end. That way you won’t have any problems threading the floss through the small spaces between your teeth and braces.

Rinse: Rinse your mouth daily with fluoride or antibacterial mouthwash. If you rinse daily, you will deeply clean your smile, nourish and strengthen your teeth, and even improve your breath.
